Alexey
Are these two lures equally effective for stripers? Is there a situation when one is preferable to another?
Mojoe
Love both of them. Both cast very far and get nice action. I find the Yo-Zuri doesn’t swim as deep as the SP so I use it more in skinny or shallow water. Alexey
Do you work both the same way? How?
FunkyBunker
Hydro minnow is not good when there are bigger waves and stronger currents. It will get rolled. In calmer conditions it works good with a slightly slower retrieve than an SP. It's also better in shallower water. Steve_M

Moco rivers run pretty swift on a moon and the hydro held fine for me. Never had any of em burn out in the surf either. Are you using stock hardware? I did better on the hydros this past season than the SP's I prefer their shallower running depths in the waters I plug most in NJ Sheisty, Lagerhead and TinyTrout 3 "Panacheless is no way to go through life" Tims

Standard 2-3' waves were fine 4'+ was getting a little funny on me. May have had something to do with the SW and SE winds. They cause the most trouble here. I also did better on the hydros during the spring, went with them for the same flat shallow water reasons. Great lures.
Ravens52988
This might different for each person and the only way to find out which works better for you is to go out and try for yourself but i tend to find that the sp works better in rougher and deeper conditions while the yo zuri works better in calmer shallower conditions. FunkyBunker
Now that i think about it some of it may be due to bad timing on days where the wave periods were faster and casting into the face of them then getting pushed.

kkennedy44
If you use an sp minnow you need to change the split rings. The stock split rings can not handle a large fish. I’ve had several fish straighten the stock split rings.
sinfish
Perhaps a better question would be "how do you like the Hydro vs the Red fin?"
drumfish213
Similar to what others said, hydro runs shallower.

Personally, I prefer the Hydro minnow over the Redfin. I really love the small jointed Redfin for early spring fish but I’ve never been crazy about the larger ones. I know many people hold the view that the Redfin is almost magic but I’m not one of them. I like the SP as well but I prefer the Hydro minnow where is fish (primarily Peconic Bay) tristate

And yes, I load the red fin (not the jointed ones) at times.
