Fished a creek that holds some pretty big Large Mouth, Pike and Pickerel, this was after a heavy night of rains and things were muddy.  Lost one real big girl, lots of effort for a bluegill.

I sure hope fall is good.  Usually, August produces a good amount of large striped bass for me, but despite a lot of effort I have been unable to find any keeper sized fish since July 30th.  The grind has really been grinding back this month.

@The Graveyard Shift - what kind of jig hooks do you use for those flies?

I use the Owner Saltwater Jig Hooks.  They have a good anti corrosion finish and are XXX wire so can handle a big bass.  They only sell them in 3/0, 5/0, and 7/0.  The flies pictured are tied on the 7/0 hooks.  I have been pretty impressed with hook durability and penetration on fish up to 37 inches.  I have yet to get a 40 inch fish this year so no field test yet on a truly large fish.  Also due to the straighter nature of hook point they are easy to touch up in the field to keep points very sharp.

Smallest fish of the year, and probably the prettiest!  Love brookies, made the early AM drive to VT worth it!

In terms of a lot of casting, definitely some work...Sunday (the day I was fishing) was extremely slow, so I just kept blind casting. Only twice in 5 hours did they show up on the surface and that fish was caught about 10 minutes after the second of those two occasions. I had a similar experience last week while using a spinning rod. I only saw one fish break, so I started fan casting the area. About 10 minutes after the fish broke, I caught my only one of that afternoon.
