Swing-Away Spare Tire to Receiver Hitch

14 posts in this topic

Would like to mount a full size spare on the back of a vehicle, not a Jeep, using a receiver hitch. Tire must swing away in order to open the hatch.  Anybody do this?  I found swing arms on-line and spare tire mounts to hitches but I haven't found the exact combination I'm looking for.  Suggestions?

cool thread.....im gonna check out that swing away.....like to hear cost effective .....

Cost effective is a relative term, swing aways are not cheap but an earlier consideration was a Thule Cargo Box on the roof for the tire.  That's ~$800.

Money aside did you ever try to get a 35 x 12.50 BFG All Terrain off the roof ?  Been there, not fun.

Vehicle is a Toyota Sienna, getting it off the roof was AAA's problem.  At least that was one plan.

Sorry to chime in so late here, but another brand worthing checking out is Detours Of Maine. As the name suggests, its a Maine based company and they have a few differnt swing away vairents, one is a pretty similar product to the Wilco but a couple hundred bucks less. I personally dont own one, but ive come across a few thought the XJ community, nice quality product
