Middletown NJ, a classic story of what's wrong with NJ?

They want to build a new town hall. The price tag is looking to end up being $100 million.

The population went from 39k in 1960 to 68k now. At the same time, the police force went from 28 to 114.

This to me looks like the evolution of classic liberal excess in government growth.

Do you agree?

I love when we make way past the breakwater at first light and head out, there's nothing better, the whole rest of the world just melts away for me.

Are we just talking administrative offices or the whole shebang? E.g. courthouse, police station, OoEM command center etc. Don't forget to add 3-5% for change orders.  The answer of course is YES, $100mil is excessive for a town that size. As a comparison at 1/5th of the size, my snooty, mostly conservative and extremely well managed town recently completed their town hall project for a police cruiser under $6mil and it's spectacular. But I'm sure the Governor approves being that it's his hometown.  If you look, you'll start to see some patterns...

I think it is way too much tax payer money spent for too small of a population..

But, I am not a tax payer there, and didn't vote for any of the town leaders.

If you are unhappy with the way the money is spent there, either win elections, or move.

Pervasive Liberalism has ruined many a places, your town is just another on a long list.

Much more information is needed to make a judgment here.

It’s the nature of the people that live there, especially the newcomers.    Population goes up 75% and police force up 300%.  They’re mostly criminals.  They should build a prison instead of a town hall.

The first ones in should be the idiots that thought spending that much money in a town that small was a good idea.

Can you give an example of what other information is needed?

What is being built?

Just a town hall or a multiplex facility?

How old is what is being replaced?

Was the project put to a vote of the townsfolk?

What is the town median income?

How much of the cost in being paid by the state?

I mean like it is NJ so it probably is Liberal excess

How does that matter?

Not yet, if ever.

It seems that way to me.

Are you a liberal? Seriously, some of those questions make you appear to be liberal.

Nah, Liberals would not ask any questions at all.

They would just build it regardless of cost.

Most disturbing is it not coming before the townsfolks for a vote.

That's straight out of the Liberal playbook.

How much are the townfolk's taxes expected to increase because of this?

That is the real question, right?

What is it going to cost the tax payer

Or, do they have some special funding source?

Lots of times the state chips in for things like fire, and police stations.

GT, the part about the townsfolk voting, im not sure.

Dena, yes, there is an alternative that looks like minimal tax impact? The builder gets the land and builds town hall. Then leases it to the town for 30 years. At the end, the town owns it.

Its in the APP.
