Bahamas Bonefish

Grand Cayman is painfully expensive but has plenty of bonefish and so much else to do (including loads of excellent restaurants) that your wife and family will be glad to be rid of you for most of the day.   There are DIY options as well as guided shore and small boat options.

I did a DIY under the guise of a family trip to Abaco. We stayed in Treasure Cay which does not have the opportunities other spots do, and alas for a few reasons were not able to get a rental car or a rental boat so I was bicycle bound. I got 2 shots at bones once I located a nice flat, blew both of them, but did get a nice mutton to eat my crab fly. DIY bonefish is a great guide, get a copy of that for sure...

Exuma for me.

Did some DIY fishing as well as with a guide. Caught my personal best bonefish while fishing on my own.

Pretty relaxed place and I enjoyed the people.

Though not the Bahamas, did the Turks and Caicos twice as well.

Did Provo DIY and So. Caicos with a guide outfit twice. Super expensive for guides in Provo.

any family or wife friendly suggestions?

Kamalame

Tiamo

I've never been to Tiamo but have been to Kamalame.  It's ridiculously nice - can't miss from the wife perspective unless she wants shopping and a casino. It ain't like that..  Upside it sits on a decent bonefish flat for getting an hour or two of DIY.  The downside is its an hour long car ride to the put in for the Joulters which are the flats you WANT to fish. The Joulters will blow your mind.

Also Copal Tree in Belize. Bonkers.

I'll just throw this in the hat  , for me the hassles of international flights w/ connecting flights & shuttles , with the kids ,wife just don't work. Not thats its the Bahamas but Biscayne Bay has some awesome fishing HUGE Bonefish to boot !  if weather changes there is still a ton of alternatives,   on American soil , easy flights to Miami  , American TV & fast foods for the kids . Bottom line is I'm going fishing and don't want any complaints about accommodations & everything that goes along with trying to combo family fun & my fishing . safe travels

Got it thanks guys

looking for white sandy beaches and safe

no casinos

no thumping music all night clubs

no obnoxious Americans lol

no bragging high maintenance people

fishing with DIY and charter options

no place that gets over run with cruise ships

but I guess not so expensive I could just as easily let me wife go to Europe and I go fish in Patagonia

couple of thoughts:

- every inhabited island in the Bahamas has bonefish and bonefish guides - figure out where you want to stay and it should be fairly easy to find a good guide as long as you give your self enough time.  If your wife is not into fishing don't stay at a bonefish lodge.  She likely won't enjoy it.  Imagine yourself stuck in a hair salon lodge all day.

- the farther away you go from Nassau the farther away you from the stuff you don't want although there will inevitably be obnoxious Americans everywhere.  Just pray you don't run into any Australians.

- If your wife would like some life, restaurants, etc - Marsh Harbor is a good home base - no cruise ships or giant hotels.  But a couple of marinas, a few restaurants, small hotels, and pretty good fishing.  If you just want super quiet and fishing - Andros, Eleuthera or Exuma.  There is nothing to do at any of these islands but chill and fish.  I have never been to any of the islands further out.

Well my wife would be ok just sitting on the sand a few days with about 5 novels and a trash gossip magazine or two. A decent place for dinner but doesn’t have to be over the top. Doesn’t feel comfortable anyplace where the resort assigns you a personal slave. Prefers afternoon bars with rum drinks and crusty fishermen and other characters ...but can leave if it gets too rowdy. Hates places with name dropping pretentious social climber types who don’t know when to stop asking really personal questions.  Hates places where a bunch of loudmouth Americans invade from a Cruise ship and don’t bother saying excuse me. Would love to snorkel with sting rays or turtles or something like that. Would go fishing with me but not the trips where we get beat up in rough seas and only get a single shot at trophy fish the entire day (that’s for me)

So I am assuming that most of us are reclusive and introverted. I really want my own private jet and island!

That is the only reason that I still purchase NYS lottery tickets.

Try Philip Rolle, North Andros.

Right in Nicol's Town. Decent cottages. Food is OK, not super. Beach is awesome.Bonefishing with Philip as well. You get the Bahamian experience.
