JohnnyK
Something toothy was lurking in the yoohoo this morning and when I finally got a bit I set the hook a little too hard. Any ideas?

Kml
The needle teeth would seem like some kind of tuna. JohnnyK

I think the proportions of teeth to jaw are a little off and houndfish's jaw looks straighter?

slip n slide
The "teeth" make it look like a jaw bone but jaw bones tend to be "L" shaped and it's not. Looks a lot like a pectoral fin bone,no idea what from...

EricDice
Yep. I couldn’t let this one go. Kept looking and came up with monkfish also. Looks like bottom jaw or maybe just one half of the bottom jaw. I used to cook these when I worked in restaurants a decade plus ago. Very tasty — like the best flavor of a tasty fish meets the best part of a tasty lobster combined. Shame it “broke off”!! i wonder if they don’t come into the surf line unless it’s cloudy? If I understand it correctly, monkfish is normally a bottom fish in more like 40-50’ but I could be wrong about that. Just something I heard a long time ago. I also heard they were almost gone around these parts. Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing!
