Im getting married on the banks of the Metolius in June. You can bet your ass I will be getting up early and clearing my mind for a few hours.

I fished my wedding day at sunrise. 30+ years married it’s a great thing to. Do . Good luck bud !

This is my favorite picture from this year.  Was taken in October on the North Fork amidst a full force fall run blitz. If you look closely, you can see my pliers didn't make it back into the sheath after the previous fish ;-)

It was a year of some enjoyable firsts in our house. My son accompanied me to the big estuary in the spring and tangled with his first stripers. He remarked on the way home that he liked the smell of fish on his hands, and that made me smile.

This was our first year fishing from a peddle kayak. New horizons and lots of fun.

Somewhere along the way my kid managed to land the first weakfish I've ever seen.

We rounded off the year with his first trip to the Salmon River in up-state NY. I expected we wouldn't spend much time fishing, but not a bit of it: the kid didn't want to leave.

Stoat that is a great post, congrats to your son and you as a Dad, you should be proud of him, there are lots of people reading this who don't have a Weakfish to their credit, me included.

The pictures are awesome. Next year won't get here for either of us fast enough.

Well, this is not a pix taken while fishing since, as of Nov 1, my main efforts involve chasing an English Setter through hills and dales after pheasants, I caught this celestial event while in the field last Saturday.  I have seen sun dogs before but none that looked like this one.

I don't get to fish as much as I once did. Work is busy. Family is busy. Life in general is busy. I was blessed with 5 sons. One would think the odds were pretty good I would have at least one fisherman in the bunch. Nope, not one. :o  I am very proud of every one of my sons. They have grown into fine young men, and each in his own way is strong, confident and passionate. What more can a father ask of his family? Okay, maybe a fisherman would have been nice?! :p

I played hooky on Friday, something I rarely do, yet something I really should do more often. I found a mile of beach all to myself and armed with an 8 weight, sinking line and a handful of chartruce over white clousers caught more fish than seems fair for a guy who really hasn't put much time in this year. Sure, they were all small, but that didn't really matter.

As I thought less and less about fishing my mind wandered to things that are important to me. I turned 50 years old last week. My wife and I just celebrated 25 years of marriage. Where does the time go? I thought a lot about my dad who is now 78 and doesn't get out fishing as much as he used to. He introduced me to fishing when I was 3 or 4. I had a fly rod in my hand when I was 6. He taught me to tie flies before I was 10. I would spend hours catching sunnies off spawning beds in the river I could ride my bike to anytime I wanted. Many trout from various places came to hand in the decades which followed, many with my father at my side. When I hooked my first striper on the fly, he was there. I remember that fish vividly even though I didn't actually land the fish.

Last night I had dinner with my parents. We talked about old times. It was good. Thanks Dad.

One of the members here,  not sure who, took this shot and I just think it's amazing!

I too think that is an amazing picture. I do have a few pictures at sunrise that are very different and unexpected that that were purely accidental and did not know it until I down loaded it with the sun reflecting off or through something.

This is my favorite picture for 2018 because this is my son experiencing an evening on the Vineyard in early June when the planets aligned for us. He got to experience big fish taking him into his backing and the thrill of losing fish that he could only imagine their size.
