This was the Thailand Giant Elephant Ear plant when it went into the ground in May.

Just cut it down today. All it needs is lots of water and sun.

Have to protect it during the winter months. Can either dig out the root that is the size of a bowling ball or put a fence around the box and fill with dead leaves.

Water temp was 66 yesterday morning but it fluctuates a lot this time of year. Going out tonight to see if anything is stirring.

Your best bet is to dig it up and keep in your cellar/basement.

I had some, not as big as that, that I tried to "overwinter" and they didn't survive.

Even with a good insulation layer, you can't predict exactly what the winter will bring, and since this is not a native plant it probably isn't hearty enough for really cold winters.

If you are successful in which ever choice you make, it will probably get even bigger, or might create some off-shoots, like many of our bulbs do....
