Wind/wather resistant, hoodie. Recomendations? Under Armour?

Hey folks,

I'm looking for a water / wind resistant full zip hoode. It's to be either a mid layer under a surf top or foul weather gear.

I'd like a little warmth, but will layer underneath if needed.

I got an Under Armour full zip hoodie last year that fits the bill but don't remeber what the model is called (they have so mant and they come & go quickly).

I'm looking for another one that's similar, but a tad warmer.

Any suggestions?

I'm currently looking at the Under Armour ColdGear Swacket. Anyone have one of these? If so, do you like it & does it fit my bill?

Thanks!

JD

Stormr makes a 2mm neoprene hoody.  Model is called "Swell".

If you have a surf top with a neck seal, it won't work well with a hoodie.  I just use a regular fleece jacket or shirt. 0% cotton all over.

Yes, I agree about no cotton.

i have Guy Cotton surf top. Has neo gaskets so not water proof. Just splash proof. I wouldn’t consider swimming with it.

Stormr hoody.

Thanks,

I looked at it a couple times. I decided against it as it isn’t breathable.

I wound up comparing US swacket, Simms Katafront hoodie & Grundens Midway Sportfishing Softshell.

UA didn’t seem to be as rough & ready for my use. Simms forearms were too restrictive for me. Grundens had evething I wanted & comes in cool colors.

sold.

ill report out how it works

I use like an under armour 3.0 or 5.0 then a columbia omni wick hoodie.

It's just a performance fafbric wicking long sleeve shirt with a hood.

Very thin.  And I wear one of those packable puffer jackets with that chrome mylar reflective liners that came as a two part system on top of that if needed.

Then  a gore tex shell.

Toasty no matter what the condition.

The light hoodie is great at killing the wind without having my shell's hood up and I can hear so much better.

Balaclava if it's stupid cold.

I only buy them on sale.  Normally 40$ but I've scored them as low as 12.  (bought 2 non hooded versions for 13 earlier this week)

I like layers

I use SIMMS and Stormer on the nice and not so nice days. Simms has a mid weight hoodie that is both wind and water resistant - tackle direct had them on sale (good buy) I’ll post the name.

Thanks Scoob,

Some good ideas there.

Yes I like layers too.

I've come to really like marino wool wool for bottom layer when it really cold. You get a lot of warmth for thin layer.

I have a few of the Columbia wick shirts, very useful indeed.

I have an older puff jacket that is wearing out. I'll look into the thiner one w/ mylar. Sounds like a great insulating layer. Mine is too thick & bulky & only useful in fridgid conditions unless standing realtivly still, like on a boat.

Thanks again.

Like I said I'll report out on Grundens hoody.

Simms rogue fleece hoodie is my go to unless I know it is gonna downpour. It is water resistant, wind resistant, warm and you can easily add a rain jacket on top if it starts to get really wet

Grundens midway sport fishing softbshell, I like it a lot. Exactly what I was looking for.

Great outter layer when not raining or deep wadding. Works well under surf top & boat foul weather gear.

warm enough w/ out being too bulky. Sold zippers. Zipper pockets. Adjustable good w/ visor. Cinchable waist. HD Velcro wrists. Wind & water resistant. Comes in cool patterns.

good purchase.
