Trolling with wire line

I will be trolling for stripped bass for first time in Raritan Bay for first time using spoons and tandem rigs. I went out a bought 2 - 113h (made in USA) and looking to use wire line. What type of line should I use for backing (braid / mono) and should the leader be?  The reels came with 30 or 40 pound braid already on them and wondering if I can just put wire right on top of it or if I need to switch it. Thanks in advance.

Ideally, Dacron braid was good backing, but you can get away with mono.

Don't know what sort of wire you're planning to use--I always liked 50 pound monel, marked every 25 yards.  Most people use 100 yards of wire; I used 200, because sometimes I had to go down to fish in 50+ feet.

Pulling spoons, you want a long leader.  I used to use about 20 feet of 50-pound mono.
