Just saw a show on eugenics on pbs last night.  To sum it up, kellogg and davenport were lobbying all americans to sterilize the feeble-minded and put them all in sanitariums.  If you get a chance watch it.....fascinating and very apropos of the way we think here in the tavern.  If we don't stop the stupid mother****ers that walk among us from breeding we are doomed.

Did it say how the public program actually lasted until 79? Started in California and a big name family paid to send a guy to Germany in the late 20s? Right after planned parenthood clinics started popping up too...strange coincidence. This can shoot in at least ten different directions, all off the flu topic, but very interesting stuff to learn about.

Will look out for it. Kellogg was an absolute quack. It probably covers the same ground that Stephen Jay Gould, who was a true giant and whom the world misses terribly (we could really use him these days, and it's hard to believe he died almost 20 years ago), covered in The Mismeasure of Man, his complete takedown of this kind of pseudoscientific, racially-inspired baloney that was so popular 100 years ago.

It's fun to laugh at this nonsense, and to say that Terri looks like he stepped out of the Kallikak family portrait, but when people take this stuff seriously, it is not at all a joke, because it is very, very dangerous.

Terri Mae does not approve this message, but screw him.

Getting spelling advice from Terri is like getting diet advice from Benny and Billy McCrary. :dismay:

Mr Kaz, please focus. This is completely FALSE: No flu shot has never been subject to a double-blind study

Moran, we were discussing the efficacy in any single year of the flu cocktail provided for the next year’s flu season. You can’t test a prospective flu vaccine if you don’t know which flu variant is going to show up in the population.

The only studies that can be done are giving vaccine for Flu A version H2N4 and then infecting those given the vaccine and a like number of placebo candidates, with actual live H2N4. You see who gets sick, compare the two rates and report results. In the studies Belmo “read”, they were comparing the efficacy of the cell culture version with the egg based version.

Terri, you are a moran and are trolling me here. But if I can teach you anything, my work is done here.

Pro tip Terri: If there is ever a debate, don’t assign yourself as the flu virus expert.

“No nation in history has survived once its borders were destroyed, once its citizenship was rendered no different from mere residence, and once its neighbors with impunity undermined its sovereignty.”

Your being wrong gig was up along time ago when you started telling us the right way to build a surf rod. Dismissed. :dismay:

The village, which had stood for maybe 1,000 years, didn't know we were coming that day. If they had, they would have run. boB was at the eye of our rage. And through him, our Captain Ahab. He would set things right again. That day, we loved him.
