Rod and reel for surf fishing

I know that there are probably a million posts on this site about rods and reels, but I still wanted to ask everyone about them.

I wanted to get a Penn Spinfisher V 4500 size and a St Croix Mojo Surf 10 foot Medium Moderate Fast. I'll be mostly fishing Block Island and Long Island during the summer for blues and stripers from the surf (maybe the occasional albie). Was thinking about 20 lb braid. Does anyone have any suggestions? The reason I picked the Spinfisher is because it has a completely enclosed case and I want it to last a while. I was looking at the Battle 2 but it has all those holes and I don't want it to get filled with sand and water.

Thanks

Wait a couple of days and just get the Spinfisher VI. Better sealing, better gears, etc etc etc. Not sure what your budget is like, but for another $100 or so you could get a Slammer III. It is heavy, but built like a tank. For the rod, in that same price range, I would skip the Mojo and go for either a TFO or ODM DNA. The Mojo is not a bad rod, but you can do better in the same bracket. I like to spool my plugging reels with 30-40lb braid, but that is just my preference.

I made the mistake of trying to have 1 do it all set up. I figure out I need a dedicated bait fishing set up and dedicated plugging set up.

Plugs I use a Lamiglas/Ron Arra 11’ with Penn Clash 5000

Bait I use a Tica 12’ that is built very stiff. I can throw 8 oz pyramid with hi lo clams no problem. I use s Slammer 6500 on that.

I fish mostly southwest nasssu county.

Spinfisher will be perfect. Spheros is a great reel also. Tsunami airwave elite 9’6 is a fantastic rod for what your looking to do. I would recommend 20lb sufix even bumping up to 30lb. The 832 breaks way higher than its rated for

I'll second the 9'6 Airwave, I have the Moderate 3/4-3.5 oz. honestly though the sweet spot is like 1.5-2oz max.

I was looking at some more rods and was thinking about maybe the St Croix travel triumph rod so I could go to different places and fish. Thoughts?

I like a one or two piece rod. If two piece I like a 70/30 split a lot.

Ive never used one of the multi piece rods. I just reel like the more parts the more that can go wrong.

I mostly soak clams and bunker but sometimes plug.
