Borsig
Just got myself a SSVI4500LL for my end of the month OBX trip. What rod would the hive recommend for this reel in a 9ft length? currently have a Tommy Tarmer 11ft 3-6oz with slammer iii 5500 and a Diawa Back bay 7'6 1/2-1.5oz with a Saltist 3000. Something in the 3/4-3oz range in 9 ft? Budget 150.00 MAX. Batallion 9 ft Med? Airwave Elite 9'6? Those are the two I've been eyeing but don't really know much about choosing a rod. Borsig
Needs to be had in my hands by the 24th. Do you guys not like the Batallion? I can get it for under 100.
Buckscorider
I like my st Croix triumph. 2 piece, medium power, rated to 2 1/2oz but will handle 3. Think it was 140$ Crushed barbs save fish, keep that rod bent!
kurazy kracka
check out the 9' star stellar, SG90IS. It says 1-4 but I wouldn't throw over 3 with it. I used that before upgrading and it was a very solid rod for the $, handled 30lb bass from the sand. I use the 8' stellar now as my bay rod and it is perfect and has handled fish over 20lbs in current. They are very parabolic.

Googan Sharpie
I would also say good things about the 9' triumph. I caught the fish in my avatar on that rod in strong current. I still fish it even though I have more expensive rods. I should mention the 7' triumph surf is my favorite rod in the boat or kayak. They used to cost $80 for the 7' and $110 for the 9'. Borsig
Im pretty sure I will be throwing 3-4oz of weight with this rod (and bait) exclusively. the Tfo looks GREAT but its like 229.00 Thats way over budget. My max is
hydraman
Like said triumph is a very nice rod for the money. I also have the mojo it’s a nice rod for the money and always have it in the car just in case the wind changes and I need to hit the beach on a wimm. Borsig
I throw at minium 3oz. The triumph 9 does not seem like a good choice? 3-4oz is my standard

Take a look at the airwave elite surf, i think that is rated to throw heavier. The batallion is a good rod for the price.
Borsig
The 9'3 extra heavy is 3-5 oz (airwave) The 9' Batallion is 3/4-3. As a bait runner / live liner, the rod will likely never see metal. I just don't see how a rod that maxes out unde 3oz is the by choice. I could go 10ft, but I already have a 3-6oz 11ft Tommy farmer with a slammer 5500. I want something in the middle that's easier to work with and hold, and fish with in low light ETA - just watched a video where a Biminay bay guy said they were plugging rods, not bait rods.
