Crack 300 w/ Gold Tapered spool

6 posts in this topic

I have a new never used Crack 300 with a gold tapered spool I was told was developed in England for a long cast contestant.

Does anyone know about this reel? I know its heavy (like a VS300) but being new and never used makes it very interesting to me and Id like to find out if it has collectibility interest.

Thx

That spool was made for distance casting -the Luxor became CRACK-they were the surf reel of choice back in the day-I believe Van Staal copied the reels-- that's how popular they were-I still use a couple of mine that I Van Staaled--you have a nice collectable reel--rreelman

Yes I have seen those tapered gold spools in the 70's and was told at the time they were casting competition spools. I believe they were accented with red chenille around the lower spool flange as well. Never used one.

You are both correct about they were used in long cast competition and the reel foes have the red chenille still in place. This one has never seen line of the water. The grease looks original too.

I actually have had many crack 300’s and 200’s Over the years have one of each I’m thinking of selling. I also have  one Luxor 300 too. These are well worn but still usable.

As far as this gold one is concerned I’m still debating keeping or selling it as well.

One's I modified for surf (one Crack 300, one of the original vintage Luxor's - note the handle) - Flyer's are sealed where the opening was for the bail trip mechanism, hand-made seal is between the flyer and body flange, roller arm modified to accept Penn 706Z ball bearing roller, spool modified to accept multiple Penn Carbon Matrix drag washers, original handle knob replaced by VS 200/250 Power Knob, body filled with Dow Corning 33 Low Temp Synthetic Grease.
