Tog Jigs! Two types.

12 posts in this topic

Using jigs for tautog has become a standard fishing method over the last few years.  I've looked at a lot of different manufacturers products and didn't like what I saw so I came up with a couple ideas myself.

It seemed to me that the main reason for using a jig for tog was to deliver the bait and the next was to help attract the fish.  With those points in mind the jig should sit upright on the bottom and also look like a crab or mollusk of some sort.  The first was easy to solve, just pick the right shape.  The "wobble jig" I've been making for fluke fit the "sit upright" requirement and the banana jig does too.  To get a good selection of colors I consulted one of my commercial customers/charter captains for input.  With his help the original three colors (I had been making them for 2 years in white, green, speckled orange/chartreuse) were expanded by three more. Green crab, white legger and No. 1 were added.

The last consideration was hook size.  All the ones I looked at had hooks that I felt were too big.  Tog have a small mouth and a wall of teeth to deal with.  A smaller hook with more shank exposure was the result.

So here they are.  Both types are painted with powder coat and heat cured.  The accent colors are also powder and heat cured.  Hooks are Mustard either #3407, 34184 or 91715 depending on the head shape and size.  They are forged, 2x strong and plated for salt water use.  The sizes are shown on the pictures.

First is the wobble jig for blackfish.

Next is the banana head.

As you can see that's a good selection of colors and shapes and sizes.  Here's the pricing.

1 oz = 2.50 ea

1 1/2 oz = 2.75 ea   note.  this size not available in the wobble head style

2 oz = 3.00 ea

3 oz = 3.50 ea

4 oz = 4.25 ea.  note.  this is the largest wobble style available

5 oz = 4.75

6 oz = 5.25

8 oz = 6.00 ea

Shipping is extra.

As always requests for specials will be considered.  If I can do it I will.  Just ask.

Thanks for looking and good luck fishing.

Shipping charges depend on shipping weight.  Up to 12 ozs it's first class mail and tops out around 4.50.  Over that it automatically becomes Priority Mail and I almost always use the flat rate charges.  The small box ( about the size of the old VCR tapes) is 7.25 no matter what the weight.  Next is the medium size at 14.00.  Never had anything over that size.
