Older Sustain 5000 is probably a B type. Take the knob out and measure the shaft length. It should be 35 mm for a type B and 28 mm for a type A.

Aqua,is this the same for the Stradic FJ?

I hate the fat football knob on my fj5000.

I haven’t used it that much because of the knob,so,it is a pretty minty reel.

I would like to put a 4k fj knob on it or something similar.

Hard to say. The FK 5000 use a type B handle. Not sure about the FJ 5000. Best bet is remove it and measure the shaft length.

I just pulled the knob and get 37 mm from shoulder to end of shaft?

Then it's a type B. Can't put a type A knob since it's shorter. I think smallest Type B knob is about 39-40mm diameter knob from Gomexus on Ebay.

Don't have the reel to measure but do know the knob bearings are the same as the smaller sustains with type a knobs. I'm trying to order the sustain eva knob for another type a reel since they're much cheaper than after market versions thanks.

Type A shaft is typically 4 mm in diameter and use a bearing that is 4x7x2.5 mm. For the older Sustain 5000 with the EVA foam knob, the outside bearing might be 4x9x4 if it is a 4 mm shaft diameter.

All type B shaft is 5mm in diameter.

Confirmed Type A. Just checked the schematics on Shimano website for the 3000 and 5000 Sustain FG.

Both bearings are 4x7x2.5 mm.
