Caught this beautiful toothy mackerel-Esque fish while fishing for mackerel on a sabiki  today 

 

it yielded one of my better bass in a while

 

what is it, and where can I find more?

Funny how you can find juvy bonito on the north shore of Mass or gulf of maine without too much problem, but they never stick around as adults. Always head south. Yet another reason they are called funny fish.

Climate change maybe not, but the SST anamoly in Gulf of Maine right now is off the charts.  rst3 on Mass regional thread has posted some good data on this.  I am reposting the SST data here.

I think that is your culprit. Looking back in my notes we caught Bonita the same size back in 2012  but offshore more, Tantas. On sabikis in a chum slick when a huge school of mackerel showed up, they were mixed in.
