Bear Island Access

Rate this topic

Have fished Bear Island area for years...but not for the past 10 years. The back water has silted in, the ferry access lane is open.  Want to tow a shallow draft boat down and motor over to surf fish the south end at the river inlet. Anyone know if it's doable? Boat draft is less than a foot.

Bear Island isn't on the OBX ... it's below Emerald Isle. It is part of Hammocks Beach State Park.... you can call the parks office after you look it up.. I'm sure they can tell you

You can get in with a shallow water boat. You will need to come in via the bear inlet creek and follow the channel all the way around the tip of Browns Island and cross right at the inlet.

I used to use the private put-in before WRC built their ramp. Prefer paying a few bucks to have my truck/trailer inside a fence. Got the pm, thanks.

That inlet used to be pretty dicey in tide changes. As much silting as there appears now, maybe it tamed down. It's sure isn't taking the sand out on either end.

Had to look up googan, but that happens a lot on our trout rivers.
