Barrell,

How are the bearings in salt water and do they need replacing after a while? I'm gonna go GT on the V2 and was wondering that side other than less resistance from the bearings.

They arent bearings like you think. No metal involved. They are roller bearings made from thin carbon straws. They are impervious to salt water.

Here is Hobie perfection...a fixed drive with all aluminum bar stock.  Thank you to the Hobie Kayak Fishing Community on several websites for helping me fix my 2014 drive that was bought in 2016, cracked the hull in 2018 and drive broke last weekend. This is not hoopla, these are facts!

A right and left hand  tap 1/2" x 20, 1/2" x 20 pedals, 29/64 bit,  never seize on the threads.

FWIW,  Who cares if the pedal threads seize up in the stalks?

Why would you need to take them off anyway?

Beyond that,  Now that you made a set, you can always make another if needed,  for cheap......well done! :th:

Nope, It's wd40. I do the freshwater rinse + wd40 after each trip which includes shooting it up that little hole at the bottom of the fin where the mast ends.

I do. I may not like the pedals down the road or the bearings seize up. Who knows, I would rather back it out easy than drill it out.
