The Old Coast Guard Station could be an issue. It would suck if it holds up the project. Gilgo and the Thumb could sure use some sand.

The Old Coast Guard Station was Not An Issue when "The Farragut Cut" was first dug on June 7, 1975.

Yes, a lot has changed since 1975. That breach in the dunes, dug by the Farragut Surf Club has seen the ocean meet the GSB on many occasions since then. And there have been more than a few attempts to move the 4X4 entrance to another location. But that is the entrance we are stuck with. At least the T/O Babylon granted access via Cedar &  The Thumb during the Fall. Thanks to successful lobbying by the Beach Access/Beach Buggy groups.

Any way, the newly dredged sand seems to be holding. The last time I visited old coast guard station at Gilgo State Park [2/16/19] all of the walls and piling were covered by sand. So unless we have a significant storm event...it looks as though Gilgo will open this Spring. Fingers crossed!

There is a Beach Clean Up scheduled for March 23rd.
