NO DOUBT!

I wouldn't be surprised it if cost half that :)

And me being me...I not on board 100% that it's a unique reel to them....

Which makes  me think that could easily be the case if made in china.

It's not. They "Robbed" it from Rob.

The signol reel from china looks a little like it. Not the spool or the rotor, but the body

Sorry fellas this isn’t an oem reel. No need to lie about it we created this one from the ground up. Hell here is an SLA of the original design before I changed the rotor design to machined aluminum.

Excellent decision wrt the machined rotor.  The stamped sheet metal rotor on the Shield is somewhat floppy.

I wish but under $300 is impossible.

John,

Impossible ........ I don"t think so. That reel cost your company about 65 USD.

  $299.00   Price Point

-     65.00

--------------

$234.00    Plenty of meat on that bone.

Did you factor in new import tariffs and  warranty replacement costs?

And tooling and engineering most of these things are at a loss until you sell a certain amount then you see profits

Did not factor in import tariffs which at the time were not applicable.

Amazing how many people who have never designed, made or marketed a reel have such vigorous opinions as to exactly how much it should cost.

I think part of the guessimating sprouts free-formed out of seeing how OEM 'fully machined super spinners' can be had for $29.99 with free shipping from China on Alibay.  They likely are mistaken but probably not by much.

We're like  kids at Christmas, always hoping for cheap superspinners (top drag of 90lbs!  Waterproof to IPX 5000 levels! Perfect line lay! One piece machined body of unobtanium! Gears of synthetic diamond!) for $29.99, and why can't it be made here???  Disappointment is inevitable. Disappointment comes at regular intervals. No matter ... maybe next year? Can we? Can we pleeez?

Those cheap Alibay superspinners aren't super. I follow the tackle chatter as well as any non-professional can do, mostly here.  There are a half dozen or a dozen posters on site whose opinions I take seriously. I haven't noticed Dennysnoook, for example, fishing any $29.99 spinners, and he fishes for a living. Kilsong does not test his rods with the current equivalent of a Penn Seaboy (what would be a modern equivalent?)  Sudsy tortured his Lexa 300 something fierce before reviewing it here. I don't think any of our top dozen fish much with a reel that came in a blister pack.
