I have caught a few sharks on the beach down in Florida and will use either a large spinner filled with 80lb braid when I just cast past the sandbar or a Penn 80W filled with 150lb braid and a 200lb topshot when I can kayak baits out.  Both have been plenty for everything I've hooked but the tackle junkie in me has me eyeing a Penn 130ST which I would probably pair with Jigging World's hybrid giant rod - a heavy-duty conventional rod without rollers so I wouldn't be concerned on the beach (it's also noticeably less expensive than a Barrett rod or other heavy duty rail rods from UC/Calstar/Seeker).  Having fished with other people's Senators on the beach, they definitely work but having the 2-speed is really nice.
