Just pulled my drop net along the dock and found this pipefish and the smallest fluke I have ever caught. It was released in great condition just in case the fish police are reading. A dime for size reference.

Fluke veal.

I read on another fishing site yesterday of a fellow fishing on the Esopus on the Hudson River caught in a net what he called a hog choker.

Looked like a 6" fluke.

Most of the comments supported the OP's name call.

I have never heard a of fish by that name.

I hooked one that size on a swimming plug a while back. Poor little bugger.

Hog Choker is legit.  "Rounder" than a Fluke/Flounder.

We get them in the castnet all summer long.

there was an article somewhere a long time ago about the Hogchoker. I've seen one that came in a flat of butterfish. Skin was so rough you could easily use it as sandpaper. The article went on to say that early farmers would take their hogs down to the beach where they would root around in the shallow water for anything they could eat. If they found one of the hogchokers they would try to eat it and choke to death when the rough skin got caught in their throats. This is what they look like.
