Haspel Writes Letter to Warner (D), Gets His Support, Will Be Confirmed

Gina Haspel writes a letter to Mark Warner in which she acknowledges that waterboarding and other controversial techniques should “never have been used” by the USA in the post-911 period. Not that it won’t be used going forward, but that she relents and says it should not have been used in the past. That is an retrospective acknowledgement she has been reluctant to make prior to this and in her public testimony. 


Many in the IC felt that her making such an admission, regarding something that was not illegal at the time, would be demoralizing to those who were involved in those legal activities at the time. 


Anyway, that letter was obviously enough for Warner to secure his vote. So Haspel, ironically, will likely be the next CIA director with the following Dems to thank:







Will others now join in as well with Warner’s aircover?
