Will not be down for breakfast. Dead at 88. May he forever be confused with Thomas Wolfe. 

I liked the guy. His work in later years really petered out, but his early stuff, especially The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and The Right Stuff was brilliant. And I liked his ability, even in his dotage, to piss people off.

Tom Wolfe is one of the greats - His essay, "My Three Stooges" is an effective dismissal of anyone who doesn't think so.
