Hiya Matthew, welcome.

What fishing experience do you have?

What’s your budget?

Where will you be fishing?

Are you planning to bait fish, or throw lures?

Do you have any freshwater gear you might be able to repurpose?

Lots of guys will chime in, but you will get better advice if we know what your plans are.

Good luck!

Think again.

Surf fishing is a curse.

:)

See, problems starts  from beginning, on simply things like reels and rods.

And than lures and/or bait

Grab a bottle of two of aspirins; you will need it for headache.

Is there any rod and reels that work good for a reasonable price for surf fishing?

It can be as easy as a taxi ride to your fishing spot with a white rod and a yellow pencil popper, or as expensive as you want to make it based on travel+expenses+ gear.

The journey is the ride. :wee:

In reality surf fishing is basically a lure-man at the waters edge trying to trick a fish. So that being said you just need rod/reel that can handle the target species/size and keep blind casting until you catch one but someone might argue that you need too spend x amount of money in order to pursue the art of surf fishing . Its a learning curve and it will get expensive down the road. That why their that thread where all the newbs hangout . Tight line- z

Some variation of Star Stellar lite (rod), Diawa BG (reel) will probably work for you. The exact models depend on how/where you decide to fish.

+1 on the BG. Just got one and it is a very nice reel. I would choose a Penn Prevail over the Stellar Lite myself, though. It is a lot of rod for $90.
