I think if you can’t sing or produce on pitch sounds with your natural equipment, that’s it.

A good voice can be improved with training though.

You going on Amercal Idol?

I'm sure singing teachers can teach anyone to sing better. Maybe not good, but less bad at least.

Great singers were probably at least good singers to begin with.

Kind of like running or throwing, you can learn but you either can or can't, those that can't never will be as proficient as those blessed with the talent.

There are some rare exceptions-some people so tone deaf that it is not possible. But that is an exception. I am certain that the vast majority can sing well enough to be acceptable to themselves and most others. Practice to improve does apply to-well everything.

A little help would be beneficial- especially when it comes to the key you choose. Some choices are out also because they feature extraordinary vocal feats i.e. "The Voice of Spring"

Nothing ventured -nothing gained

If you can breathe, you can sing. I spent most of my life believing that I can't sing. I was wrong. Very few people are completely tone deaf (my mom was one). The key to singing is confidence. You will not stay on pitch if you sing tentatively.

Can one "learn" how to sing, or is a nice singing voice something you are born with?

The answer is yes and no - you can learn techniques so that you sound semi competent...but you are born with a naturally good sounding voice...there are actually a number of famous rock stars who are noted for their voice, who never technically learned to sing...this tells me that being blessed with a naturally good voice voice trumps learning how to sing

Some people just can't sing no matter how hard they try and or practice.

Mik Jagger has been trying to sing for the last 50+ years.

The results are self evident.

Right on par with Yoko Ono.

Right on par with Yoko Ono.

Paul Rogers and Freddie Mercury were pretty good singers
