So start cutting

but the left will never allow that - they have to protect the millions on the government teat, and I don't mean the freestuffers I mean the bloated bureaucracies.

Just want to point out to everyone the cherry picking

the problem is not social security,

and social security is NOT free stuff,

we pay into it all our adult lives up to retirement.

that's not free.

Where is the Social Security surplus?

why is it that you guys would rather AVOID an honest conversation than have one?

I like how I get called "you guys" by people on BOTH sides. That makes me happier than you can know.

cutting taxes for the wealthy and creating massive debt isn't fiscally conservative.

But creating massive debt through overspending is just dandy. Especially if the spending results in a massive government giveaway to every liberal group around. :th:

Good grief, no wonder I hate both parties so much. :dismay:

in this case "you guys" is anyone who would rather dismiss a post and mock it,

vs. discuss it.

I'm a pretty moderate Democrat, and am open to cutting back on entitlement programs.

but if the choice is higher taxes and paying for our spending,

or

cutting taxes (mostly for the rich) and borrowing for our spending,

I think the higher taxes would be the more fiscally conservative approach.

I would actually agree with this, but I would VASTLY prefer Door #3, which is cut taxes, AND cut spending. And I'm talking about a real spending cut, not one of these "cuts" that reduces a 7% spending increase to a 5% increase.

But neither party has any interest in cutting spending. Look at it this way: in 2000, the federal budget was $1.79 trillion.; this year, it's $4.094 trillion. In just 18 years, at a time of near-zero inflation, when both parties have controlled Congress and the Presidency, federal spending has gone up 228% -- for what, exactly? Is there anyone out there who feels like we're getting twice as much stuff from the pinheads in D.C.?

This, more than anything else, is why I refuse to belong to either party.

If you defend the Democrats, you are going to be associated with their tax-and-spend proclivities. Unless you convince me that you disagree with them.

Convince me otherwise -- *ly.
