flyangler
Strange, the F117s feel like "new" birds and too "young" to retire, but I guess these stealthy birds have been around longer than we realize. Two specially painted F-117 Nighthawks fly on one of their last missions. The F-117s were retired in a farewell ceremony at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, April 22, 2008. flyangler
Upside down A10 Warthog, my favorite active air frame. An A-10 Thunderbolt II from the 127th Wing, Michigan Air National Guard, participates in operations at Grayling Air Gunnery Range during Northern Strike 16. Northern Strike 16 is a National Guard Bureau-sponsored exercise uniting approximately 5,000 Army, Air Force, Marine, and Special service members from 20 states and three coalition countries during the first three weeks of August 2016 at the Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center and the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, both located in northern Michigan. The exercise strives to provide accessible, readiness-building opportunities for military units from all service branches to achieve and sustain proficiency in conducting mission command, air, sea, and ground maneuver integration, and the synchronization of fires in a joint, multinational, decisive action environment. flyangler
A herd of Warhogs Aircraft from the 23rd Wing conducted a surge exercise May 22, 2017, at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. The exercise demonstrated the wing's ability to rapidly deploy combat ready forces across the globe. The 23rd Wing maintains and operates A-10C Thunderbolt IIs, HH-60G Pave Hawks, and HC-130J Combat King II aircraft for precision attack, personnel recovery and combat support worldwide. BrianBM
Tomkaz has me wondering when the F-117 was first placed in service. I'll have to go look that up .... the F-35 continues its' slow march towards gen-u-wine serviceability, and perhaps it can already fulfill the particular missions for which the the F-117, a somewhat specialized aircraft, was previously the tool of choice. JimP
117 was flying at least in '81 or '82. I was out on an exercise in nevada and we were way the heck out in the boonies (might have been the NTS - can't recall), and saw it flying one evening. didn't know what the hell is was and figured it to be a special project. Don't think they publicly appeared until Panama in '90.
