It's tough reliable, and for all intents sealed. Wouldn't skish with it or anything.... but you cant skish the ditch so np. Casts more than fine and holds up to jigs. Works for me.

Use the 10K myself.

As a side note It wasn't a great feeling when i picked up an 8k at the shimano booth at the show.

It not only had wobble i could feel the guy standing next to me noticed as well.

My reel was great for 2 plus hard seasons until i sent it back to shimano for an uneeded service. (stupid me) never again, its not perfect anymore.

Thanks for the suggestions. Now to find a way to order this set-up without the wife noticing...

Check out some of the shops around the canal, they should all cary the rods and the Gosa. Definitely better than ordering online IMO.

Yes, I always try to support local shops. Which one do you think would be the most helpful for a canal newbie like myself?

My buddy was gunning my gossa 8k out there the other day.

He made some very impressive casts with it on his century 12 rod.

You could hear the line hitting the edge of the reel towards the end of cast.

Not a distance reel.

Still I like this reel for the canal.

I just bought the 8k is it really that bad for distance. A friend told me.juat the opposite but then again I suppose it all depends what you are throwing for weight iv always believed that if your throwing 2oz compare to 5oz you might not get the distance you want

I'm in the market for a new rod to pair with my 6500 Slammer III.

Looking at 10 - 11ft @ $250.

Is the Gosa 8k around the same size/weight?
