New Battery Box set up

9 posts in this topic

Scratched my head for a while but got things sorted out and done. Should be good. Plano tool box (five bucks) has waterproof gasket and is light.  9Ah SLA battery drops right in...no spacers needed at sides.  Put dielectric grease on terminals and sealed with hot glue. Added marine terminal strip...bolted on with stainless bolts.  Holes and rubber grommets in side.  Cables thru. Seal with silicone inside and hot glue outside.  One cable for hooking to charger and one for FF power.  All connections dielectric grease, crimp, self-sticking rubber tape and shrink wrap. Velcro bottom of box to hull bilge.  Using heavy-duty SAE connectors for connecting to FF (not shown) from walmart (trolling motor connectors).

Looks good. Do you plan on running multiple things at once?

Oh I see...one to charge...I would have left the charging cable inside the box to keep it dry and out of the elements when in your kayak.

You have a point there. It does have a water resistant rubber cap that goes over the plug but it probably would be better left inside.

I used the same ammo box from Dick's and ran my two wires through a grommet . The box sits below deck and will not be exposed to water. The battery that I used is a sealed battery. The terminal block is a nice idea if using multiple applications (lights, water pump, aerator and fish finder) Yes the grommet is sealed. The ammo box does have a rubber gasket in the lid.

Yeah, it doesn't need yo be totally waterproof.  Just keep water and spray from the battery and connections.  Heres a shot of the SAE connectors.
