Recently got a mint Abu 6000c and figured I'd hop it up a bit before taking it out. I ordered a current soft grip Abu garcia handle for it and handle nut kit. When I went to install I noticed there's not enough drive treads to tread the handle ,retainer, and nut. I've seen photos of this combo of parts working. Only washer between the handle and the star is that thin flat spring washer :/ ? ...... Also it's still has the stock nylon drive shaft bushing ,the bearing kit and ct frame won't be here till Monday.

Nevermind I figured it out

I know this is an old post.

I had his issue recently.

Strange thing is the upgraded handle WAS  on then I couldn't get it back on after taking reel apart.

The stock handle went right back on.

Anybody else have this happen swapping handles?

It's possible your star drag wasn't turned down enough... past the shoulder on the shaft. The older original handles are a smell thinner than newer power handles.

I had it cranked down all the way.

I took apart and reassembled it many times and just gave up and put stock handle on.

The part that gets me is the other handle was on it before I took it apart.

I figure something was not right.
