A tribute to Ed Hochuli, the NFL's buffest referee

Ed Hochuli, the NFL's longest-tenured referee, is retiring after 28 years with the league, senior vice president of officiating Al Riveron announced Tuesday.

Arguably one of the NFL's most recognizable and well-known referees, Hochuli joined the league as a back judge in 1990 and was promoted to referee in 1992. He officiated two Super Bowls, one in 1998 and another in 2004, and will be replaced by his son, Shawn, who spent last season as a back judge.

Jeff Triplette, a 22-year veteran, is also retiring, while former side judge Alex Kemp has also been promoted to referee.

Read somewhere yesterday (paraphrasing):

"In his spare time, he is an attorney - which may be why his verbose explanations always sounded like closing arguments."

Good for him.

Is there a point here?    :headscratch:

Ed used to explain in detail every call, at times he would go on an on.

Back in the early/mid 90s, my buddy in Seattle (from AZ)  used to go ballistic every time Hochuli was on TV.  Almost an unnatural hatred of the guy.  I didn't get it at the time, then he told me Hochuli and Hochuli's brother were attorneys and were hired by his ex in their divorce back in AZ. .  He got skewered.  Then it all made sense.  man he hated that guy
