if you intend to make plugs only on a small scale , do you think those  Harbor Freight lathes will do?

Yes. the 10x18" is perfect.

Definitely don't be afraid of the old classics, especially if you have the space for a floor model

There are thousands of the old Delta / Rockwell models around that came from schools that are still in great shape (pretty much bullet proof)

Watch Craigslist, LetGo, all the various local yard sale sites on F B..............

Got mine wit hthe big Vega duplicator, for the cost of a small bench top model and I've seen even better deals out there since.

Just be sure it has all the major parts as they can be pricey to replace individually

Motor and belts you can upgrade, tool rests are a different story.

Mine belonged to Billy McFaddin (RIP ) turned thousands of plugs before I got it, and is still going strong, the only things replaced being the motor and belts.

Curious to know if anyone is using the smaller Jet (1015) with a Vega dup ?

Looks like it would be fine for turning lure bodies.

Thanks.

Yep, turned 1000's of plugs with this set up.

I was lucky to inherent my grandfathers 1460 delta. This thing is great to turn plugs on.

I have one of Gary Hull's jet/vega setups.

I think Ed White has the other.

I pm'd Steel Pulse about a year ago about a new cutter. He said that if it was Gary's old rig, it had a cutter that was good for a couple thousand plugs and I probably didn't need a new cutter.

Then I talked to Digger and he said it probably cut a few thousand plugs lol.

Morale of the story, I got a new cutter from SP and I'm cutting like butter again.
