TBYRD
Trying to decide on a new reel for jigging and bait from a boat. Mid priced non-LW conventional. Daiwa Seagate 35? Ditch Troll #338 -Tight Lines
jjdbike
I prefer narrow reels because the seem to cast better & are easier to level the line. JD
Scubachris
From a boat? I like level winds. Some have counters on them now but i prefer counting bar sweeps. Like 22-24 sweeps is where the snappers are hitting for example. Narrow spools are great if you cast.

Daiwa Seagate 35? If you have a fat thumb you may need a std otherwise I'd go with the narrow as said above easier to keep the line level. The Maxel Narrow is really narrow Edited January 15, 2018 by Tomm24

I'm in Hawaii so no worries about ice. I jig the FAD buoys for tuna & prefer level winds. Don't have to use your thumb to line the spool. You can count bar swipes to get to the desired depth if jigging or distance behind the prop wash. A lot depends on the species you're targeting, type of equipment used as well as the type of environment you're working.
giggyfish
I’m a sucker for a narrow jigging reel probably my favorite type of fishing.

I guess I should have said “budget” narrow bottom fishing from a boat reel. I’m hoping to try Squiding for cod off the NE coast with a high retrieve ratio. I have a few levelwind setups for fluking but want to try something new. Ditch Troll #338 -Tight Lines

The Maxel is awesome if you don't want to cast and dont mind tightening all the screws before each use. The thumb bar design just doesn't cut it.
