Cork tape drying out...is there any way to fix this?

Guys,

I was just in my garage grabbing a few older reels that I want to clean and lube, and I came across my surf rod that I have not touched in years.  It is a Rainshadow SW1087 that I spiral wrapped, and I have it paired with an Abu 6500 C3 that I upgraded with drags, mags, and a better handle.   I love this rod, but have not fished it in about two years.

Anyway, as I was removing the reel I felt the cork tape that is wrapped on the rod, and it is really becoming dry.  I had small particles come off in my hand, about the size of sandpaper grit.  Is there any way to recondition the cork tape so that it is not falling apart, or am I better off in removing it and replacing with new tape?

Thanks.

Doyle

It dries out and shrinks after a while.  Faster if you leave it in the sun or on your boat.  Easy to rewrap.   Go to Mud Hole or your local bait shop.  Anyone one who fixes rods should have some.  they get 100' rolls.  Also iff you take it off and measure it , you will know
