BlazingTiger
Sounds good and thanks! But now I'm curious what advice you have about the wedding? Tried to PM you but I must be in a probationary period being new to the forum. Don't worry no hard feelings! ByronPA
johnbull
A couple of different 9'rods is about right. By late May you the water will probably be warm enough for Spanish and blues in the surf. You'll be tossing hopkins, stingsilvers, gotchas of some sort. The tackle shops can suggest what the fish tend to be hitting on, and you'll want to tie your line directly to the lure. Use the other rod for a two hook bottom rig (small blues, sea mullet). If you were going to be there in March-April or in October-November you would definitely want to bring a "heaver" for drum and/or big blues. BlazingTiger
Cool! All geared up! Bought a 9ft Prevail 3/4-2 paired to a Daiwa Revros 3000 with 15lb braid for lures. 10ft Prevail 1-5 with a Daiwa BG 3500 20lb braid for bottom 2 hook rig. Going down to Delaware for the weekend, gonna stop by the tackle shop for rigs and bait. Can't wait! ByronPA
johnbull
You’re set. One caveat though is this- if you venture down to the point don’t use braid. “When in Rome do as the Romans do...” In this case the Romans use monofilament. Have fun! I live in Raleigh and love to fish Hatteras and Ocracoke. I came across this thread via Google, and loved it so much that I had to sign up for the forum and make a comment. I'm 45. Back in my 20s, I spent about 3.5 years in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Otherwise, I've spent my time below the Mason/Dixon. My least favorite part of living in the north was that talking to strangers was frowned upon. I grew up in a rural area, where everyone waves to everyone, all the time. One of my favorite parts of visiting the Outer Banks is driving on Pole Road or Ramp 72, giving the rural wave to everyone I pass. North Carolina and Virginia drivers almost always wave back; NJ and PA drivers generally don't. The next time you're down this way, please wave! It's good for the soul. And if you see me on the beach, say hello. I'm a pretty terrible fisherman, but I always have extra beer. dixiekraut
I have found most surf fishermen ( and women ) on the OBX are pretty friendly and easy going, eager to trade a fishing story or two. Guess we are all just glad to be down there on the beach. johnbull and Danthe 1

Rougesun
Great post. Never found tuna belly in a bait shop, but I have watched the Twins show up on a pier and hammer them with that bait. Then again, those two guys hammer them with any bait. Your best best is to catch a tuna offshore or hit the marina and scarf up some belly from the fish cleaning guys. Great bait for drum, from what I have seen. Also casts better then any other for deadsticking.

BrianBM
I take it the Twins are locally well-known folks. As for tuna belly, if it's from YFT or BFT, the belly gets eaten by ... me. Lateral line meat is very dark and if from little tunny, it's bait. If from YFT or BFT, it's an experiment. Brine it a lot ... I could swear I've seen recipes for it, somewhere. Catch This
Yes on the Twins being locally well known. Their reputations are well earned. AMSA, NCBBA, OBPA, VSSA
