JohnP
Interesting read in WSJ if this is of interest to you. No, people don't always behave rationally. No, free markets don't always work. Yes, automatically enrolling people in things like retirement planning accounts results in them saving more than if they made a "rational" decision of how much to save each pay period. Broad implications for the economy and the process of governing and regulating. lets try for a civil conversation..who would like to disagree first? Little
Free markets offer freedom. Every time. Your premise reads like "free markets dont do what I think they should do". “My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose.” Ayn Rand

JimG
I agree that most people would not have saved for retirement if their money wants forcibly taken from them for social security. I also think that the govt has mismanaged the money. If people were forced to have 7 percent of their income plus a match from their employer and got to choose how to invest it in the bank and funds of their choosing. Alot more people would be reitired by the time they are
eddy
hell, even your very own garage sale isn't a free market anymore. make too much money and Uncle Sam will come knocking on your door. don't have a permit and the government will shut you down. Yep. In August, I didn't grease the local palms by paying for the $25 yard sale permit(which i was unaware even existed), got shut down and made the police notes in the local paper. While I was out walking around taking the signs down, the guy with the gun and badge came back and gave my wife more grief because I wasn't taking the signs down fast enough Edited October 10, 2017 by jkrock "mother Theresa was a POS"-fish'nmagician
