Specs say I can put 400 yds. of 30lb. braid.   How much do I really want to put on there ? If not all braid then what underneath ?

Thanks

I always back braid with mono and never over fill it but always try to come close. Overfilling can cause wind knots

hold tight

I always overfill.  Then do one outing of stripping the extra 10 or 20 yards at a time...when the windknots stop, I have enough.

Actually I do too

Im new to the game, and I know guys use mono as a filler...but why? Is it because mono is cheaper and just functions as a filler?

Thanks again

I find it will grip the spool hub better than braid and resists slipping on the spool.

Better team won.

Plus, when you have a large capacity spool meant for 20 lb mono, etc., you can take up some of the space and save some pennies, but still fill with 150+ yards of small diameter braid.

330yards of 30lb Jbraid 8x overspooled it by a hair. It will not hold 400 yards.

Really, thats way off. Any backing? Put on by machine?

I have 20# on mine, and put probably close to 450 yards on mine and it's still underfilled.
