· #1 Posted October 6, 2017 Hello all, I mainly fish the back bay, and I throw 4nB8 80% of the time and I use 11' Mojo Surf for that application. I would like to add another rod that is able to throw 5oz or 6oz weight plus a medium size bunker chunk. I do no plan to go over 6oz weight for my application due to it being back bay. I was looking at my options as well as the search button and come up with MSS120MHF2, TSAWESS-1142XH, and tica dolphin models. Anyone have experience with these rods? I would like a rod rated best at throwing 6oz, and lob 8oz for that rare occasion. Thanks! 0 Go to top
· #2 Posted October 6, 2017 I Have a 12' tica tc2, the model under the dolphin, for throwing just that. It launches 6 and a bunker chunk like it's nothing. The rod is rated 4-10oz. I'm sure it could launch 8 n bait just as well. 0 Go to top
· #3 Posted October 6, 2017 Breakaway ldx is a good choice. Very nice rods for the price. I’m a big fan of the allstar blanks for baitfishing. or step up to the next heavier mojo if you like the one you have. I have a tsunami trophy I use for this rated 4-6. It’s not the best rod for the application because it’s not quite heavy enough but my hdx is too heavy for back bay. The airwaves I was looking at are also very nice. 0 Go to top
· #4 Posted October 7, 2017 So you recommend 11' 4 tsunami and 12' mojo for 6nb8? 0 Go to top

Is it on the 12 heavy side for throwing 6nb8? 0 Go to top
· #6 Posted October 7, 2017 All-star used to make an 11'9" blank that was perfect for 6 oz and bait. If you can find that I would pair it with a penn fathom 12 or abu 6500 and you will be set 0 Go to top
· #7 Posted October 7, 2017 It was a very popular blank on the Outer Banks probably 10 + years ago. You might want to search some of the North Carolina/Virginia forums on different websites to see if you can find one 0 Go to top

Not at all, it's super lightweight for the size and power. I have it paired with a saragosa 10k and its perfect. · #9 Posted October 7, 2017 are you racking it? Glass is awesome if your not casting and fatigue isn't an issue. I still think glass is a better fish fighter, but they are much heavier especially as they get larger. I use a 9' lami S glass for light duty as the weight differential is negligible to fatigue. 0 Go to top

Maybe in few years ill get casting rod and reel for higher weight payload. 0 Go to top

I tried glass rod as my first long time ago and i prefer graphite due to weight and noodling. Maybe it was because it was cheap rod. 0 Go to top

Personally, when I fish the bay I don't use more than 4oz. If I need more than 4 then it's too rough. 0 Go to top

Any other similar options available that would be even more budget friendly or am i being unrealistic? 0 Go to top
· #14 Posted October 7, 2017 There are cheaper options out there but, imo, tica is probably one of the better bangs for your buck 0 Go to top
