Yak guys, need input

Boss moved to Brielle just off the glimmer glass.  Gave me some furniture, wouldn't take anything for it.  Then his eyebrow went up and he said "but you will build me a rod"  He's seen some of my NERB creations, so guess I'm all in.  Only fair.

So for the most part he'll be paddling around the Glimmerglass and river, maybe out front at times?  How long a rod do you want on a yak?

Spinner 7-8'

conventional 6-7'

TimS built my yak rod and made the butt shorter than a normal spinner, for casting when seated. Works well.

7 feet is the norm. I'd build it just like a boat rod, with (maybe) one of them live-bait blanks like the Seekers CLB series (yak guys seem to live the x-fast action of them), and whatever style (spin/convench/sprial) the guy likes.

The only other kayak-specific thing to do is put something somewhere on the rod to attach a leash to.

Get Bit (*ly) has North Fork blanks at 60% off right now. You could get one of them, and tell the guy you spend $800 building it. He'd never know the truth! :D

My preference is a 7' rod. And when holding it at the reel seat, the butt shouldn't extend beyond my elbow. This provides the best fish fighting mobility when seated. Just my opinion as I'm sure some will not like my suggestion. But this is what works best for me.
