Hey folks, quick question for y'all. I have a surplus Penn Battle 2 rod (came with Battle 2 6000). I bought the combo, but bought a Squadron 2 rod for chunking. I recently have been interested in nearshore/ patch reef kayak fishingg and have been wondering about the Battle rod. It is 9 foot, Medium Heavy Action I believe, Medium Fast, and is capable of 1-3 oz of lead. Line weight 15-30 (mono, Im not really a braided guy). Curious, paired up with  Penn Pursuit 5000 or 6000 or something like that, would it work for yellowtail, Mahi, small groupers, porgies, etc? Nothing huge. Thanks.

To me, it seems 9ft would be too long for kayak/boat fishing. Optimal would be between 7-8ft. If you are not casting you can go with a shorter length as a longer rod would make it more difficult to land fish.
