I have some 30 lb. in smoke coming...will replace my Berkley Professional, which I love, on my Van Stall...guaranteed to beat on it this fall and all spring.

Will report back soon...

That's gotta be some wirey stuff...if the 14 is stiff...the 30 has to be like romex :)

curious how it works for ya!!

The Pro is wiry, too...like waxed dental floss...very few wind knots, even when overspooled...none in months of hard fishing, now.  All saltwater.

The top is original 14lb fireline smoke.

The bottom is  14 ultra 8 crystal

There is a massive difference between the two.

between the feel, slickness, density.

PUtting spacers on an ultegra ci4+ on loan from a sub....and gonna spool it on up.

Gonna see how 14lb compares to 30lb j braid  in terms of casting.

This is just great. I just had my reels spooled with original fireline. Maybe I can try it out on my schoolie/albie rod. I liked gliss but I didn't like it enough to put on any of my saltwater gear.

So the diameter is more like og fireline than traditional braids?

Yes. Only much more uniform.  OG fireline had thick and thin cross sections and flat spots due to the weave which was very sparse.

Good. That's why I went light. I usually use 10-15lb braid on inshore spinners so I figured 8 for fireline would be good.

Damn you read my mind.  Just spooled up literally a minute ago

14lb test 300 yard spool fits perfectly using the 4500 spacers on the ultegra 5500 ci4+

Gonna try to measure out a field in a little bit if not I'll be at the tip of the hook tomorrow.
