wasn't it the KP 500?   I think they were "issue" back in the '70's.

I don't remember.  It was a pretty good unit for its day though...was definately a few years old when I got it

ATSF 4-8-4 on car float in Baltimore. Engine built at Baldwins in Philly then sent down the B&O where it wouldn't fit in the Baltimore tunnels so they went around them by water.

I remember those shafts when I started working in the mills at 16 yrs.  Carpet mill, textile mill and a machine shop all in the same group of buildings, no steam engine but driven by water powered DC motors the size of a Volkswagon. Saturday maintenance was pouring new babbit bearings, I still have some babbit metal somewhere here............
