Hot Bronze

It's that time of year. Ironically, the Farmington has plenty of cool water (some stretches are still in the 50s) and loads of hungry trout, but I just can't resist the call of smallies in the Hous.

Speaking of "Hot Bronze," that's the title of the summer smallmouth primer I wrote for Field & Stream. You can read it in the current (August 2017) issue. Nothing new for you old pros, but if you're looking to get into the smallmouth on the fly game it's a good place to start.

A Housy hooligan from the other night. I got him on a white fly soft hackle dropper.

Once they reach a certain size, they take on that pixilated camo and gill plate striping. The small ones are kind of bland. But they all fight like tigers.

Heading out for some more action with these ruffians soon.
