Hey Fat John: the guy looks like he weighs more than you do which is clearly a major accomplishment. It is truly a "big" loss for Democrats. Why did OJ move to West Virginia? Because everybody's DNA is the same there.

Is Joe Manchin next ?

I doubt it, at least for now. Why would he with Rep turmoil in the White House and Congress?

Some people are speculating in the other direction...that Murkowski and Collins could declare as independents and caucus with Dems.

They would lose those cherished committee posts.

I could see Murkowski, didn't she lose a primary, then run and win ?

Doubt that because then Collins would have to give up her positions on:

Senate Special Committee on Aging
Senate Committee on Appropriations
Chair, Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies
Member, Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies
Member, Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies
Member, Subcommittee on Department of Defense
Member, Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development
Member, Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies
Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
Member, Subcommittee on Primary Health and Retirement Security
Senate Select Committee on Intelligence

Similarly, Murkowski would have to give up her positions on:

Chair, Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
Ex Officio, Subcommittee on Energy
Ex Officio, Subcommittee on National Parks
Ex Officio, Subcommittee on Public Lands, Forests, and Mining
Ex Officio, Subcommittee on Water and Power
Senate Committee on Appropriations
Chair, Subcommittee on Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies
Member, Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies
Member, Subcommittee on Department of Defense
Member, Subcommittee on Department of Homeland Security
Member, Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development
Member, Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies
Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
Member, Subcommittee on Children and Families
Member, Subcommittee on Primary Health and Retirement Security
Senate Committee on Indian Affairs

Also, the Dems are having trouble raising money at the national level so when 2018 rolls around, unless their fortunes change, payments to individual candidates in challenging races will be sparse. The Dems are defending far more seats than the GOP in the Senate and if these two defect, they won't be high on the list of priority contributions. How would they raise money if disassociated from their GOP mailing lists, etc.?

I just can't see it. What would it gain them since they seem to vote as they wish against McConnell when they want?

Yeah, name recognition goes a long way.  Worked for Liberman, too.
