NJ Dave
Question..... What is the difference between the original greenies or the old black reels VS. the updated "Z" series? Also with the re release of the 704 and 706.... Will there ever be a 705 or 707 re release? If not WHY nothing for the lefties ???????????
needles
JMO but I don't think the 704/706 will be in production too much longer.
george6308
Maltalic blue green for the 704. Three versions of the 704 side plate. 700 painted a darker green than the rest of the greenies plus different handles on the 700 due to a shorter main gear shaft & frame for the shorter main shaft. Original 706 had no ball bearing on the main gear shaft (all green) later black 706z had a ball bearing on the main gear shaft. 716, 714, 710, & 712 only difference is green vs black for the Z's. 720 originally blue, than brown, than black as a Z reel. 722 metallic blue, than brown, than as a Z painted black No part differerance in parts. 711, 713, 705, 707, and 702 left handed versions. Wow. Thanks. What I should have asked, aside from the cosmetic changes, were there any internal "upgrades" for the Z series aside from gold bling and the sealed drag cap? george6308
In answer to your question: drag washers up graded to HT100 and the ball bearing added to the 706, no other part changes. Rubber handle knows used on the later Z's. Edited July 2, 2017 by george6308

Charlieredfish
great post...I've been interested in this myself...I wonder though if the same metal was/is still being used for the body/cup and rotor...from greenies to today's Z??? Hmm... Cheers Charlie

george6308
Only the greenie 710 used the green fiberglass spool.
D1fishr
As far as differences, there's cast painted and anodized spools out there for the 704/05. There was also a 702 which was a RH retrieve 700.
