How do I find 10% of the owls people on this site do?

Haha. I think the same thing when I see p & t's pics. I've only seen snowys. I hear owls outside of my house nearly every night, but have never seen one.

Walk slow and look up.   There are tons of them in SE Mass, but they are silent and will watch you walk by even if they're hanging out on a low branch.   Then when they fly away they don't make a sound.

I had one nearly use me as a perch last weekend in RI.

Not sure if they respond this time of year, but in the spring barred owls are pretty easy to call in.

I've done it from my back deck when I've heard a couple calling back and forth.  I just join in the conversation and you can hear them get closer each time they call.

Depends on what your looking for too. You can reasonably expect to find Several different varieties.

Great Horned Owl

Barred Owl

Eastern Screech Owl

Northern Saw-Whet Owl

Short Eared Owl

Long Eared Owl ( a tough find, haven't seen one yet. )

Snowy Owl

Probably 3 others are possible but to rare to mention.
