Torquedo trolling motor battery dead

Is there a way to hook up a regular (lightweight) battery to my old Torquedo? I don't want to spend $700.

We just want it for tooling around the cove. If it dies, we CAN use oars to get back in.

It may not work since there need to be a "talk" between the motor, battery and throttle control...and you need a special jack. What happened? How do you know is the battery?...A weak link  for this motor is the cable between the motor and the battery...Are you getting an error on the screen?

That is one way to make sure you don't loose a sail down the road...

Those Torquedos look awesome but dang, they are expensive. They now make an 80hp outboard version that costs, get this, $40,000.
