The pair of screeches in my yard got 2 of the young out of the box 2 nights ago and came back and got the 3rd last night. I found the family unit nearby in the woods this morning. The male with the last baby and the female with the first two. I will never get tired of these birds...they are awesome. I expect them to hang around a while longer until the young can fly and hunt on their own. Hopefully they come back and visit once in a while.

I just realized how prominent their ears are, not at all like other birds.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing.

Very cool looney. Question: is the nesting site cut into the tree, or is it a box?

I know owls and wood ducks etc like to nest in old woodpecker holes.

It's a box mounted to the tree.

Not at all. I was inquiring of Looney Tunes.  As to you, bite me.

Some gratitude for approving the publication of your last post, y' ole goat. ;)

Is your property big enough to justify additional nest boxes? It'd be neat to surround yourself with flying mousetraps.

I border the woods. I have no problem putting boxes in the woods that I can see from my property, I don't think additional boxes would be any advantage though. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be too welcoming to any other pairs nearby...I could be wrong though.
